  • Unit Director - Grand Boulevard Club

    Title:            Unit Director

     

    Reports to:  Executive Director

     

    Work Type:  Salary Staff

     

    Status:         Full-time, exempt, benefits eligible

     

     

    The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hamilton (BGCH) delivers outcome-driven experiences that enrich kids’ lives by impacting ​Academic Success, ​Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles. We support and provide active learning, academic pathways, arts experiences, and creative learning environments. BGCH is currently looking for a Program Manager to join our team at the East Avenue Club.

     

    Key Roles & Responsibilities

    • Ability to support the BGCH mission, vision and youth development philosophy in a manner that resonates with staff, Club members, volunteers and partners through leadership
    • Provide and ensure the delivery of programs reflecting the youth development program model
    • Establish and maintain positive relationships with Club members that are conducive to their growth and development
    • Provide direction to staff to ensure that all Club goals are met
    • Ensure that the Club operates to reflect the Youth Program Quality Intervention (YPQI) tool and that groups are rotating, programs are operating, and organization is maintained
    • Manage the facility in a manner that will assure a safe and clean environment for membership and staff
    • When appropriate, document disciplinary actions in accordance with the BGCGC Employee Handbook
    • Maintain accurate statistical accountability of all Club operations, including payroll, program schedules and the food program; utilizing KidTrax software, track membership, daily attendance and Club Activities. 
    • Manage the Club budget.
    • Attend regularly scheduled meetings assigned by BGCH and other collaborating agencies.

     

    Supervision

    • Serve as direct supervisor of Program Manager
    • Provide supervisory guidance and support to the Program Manager in supervising part-time staff
    • Facilitate the hiring and recruiting for all Club positions, and when appropriate, follow the necessary plan of discipline in accordance with the BGCH Employee handbook.  Conduct weekly Club staff meetings. Conduct yearly performance appraisals on staff.
    • Document member disciplinary incidents, contact parents/guardians, and follow the necessary plan of discipline.  Act on behalf of the Club as the sole contact for parents and members when handling matters of discipline. 

     

    Leadership

    • Act on behalf of the Club to interpret the Boys & Girls Club mission to the community; establish and maintain a positive public image by leading community networking initiatives
    • Lead and support staff in a manner that will assure a positive and nurturing Club environment, and fosters their growth and development.
    • Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers to ensure coordination of programming and integration of Graduate, Fit for Life, Ready to Serve.
    • Provide ongoing feedback and regular appraisal to program staff and volunteers, ensuring adherence to Club policies.
    • Participate and facilitate leadership discussions when necessary.

     

    Relationships & Collaboration

    • Maintain daily contact with Club staff, including full-time, part-time, and volunteers, to discuss issues challenges and opportunities and to provide the best possible program delivery
    • Continue contact with other youth-serving agencies, schools, and parents of members
    • Works with Program Manager to establish and maintain average daily attendance goals and develop community partnerships to enhance programming and community awareness
    • Work closely with BGCH administrative staff and volunteers

     

    Physical Requirements/Work Environment

    We maintain a 15:1 member to staff ratio.  Activities are varied and require active engagement during educational and recreational programming, which may include extended periods of walking and standing. Activities will be varied due to working with youth and could require running and extended periods of standing and walking. Maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift less than 25 lbs. Requires ability to use computer, various standard and specialized software and database systems, keyboard, calculator and typical office machines. Requires travel to other Clubs and community agencies for meetings and training events.

     

    Skills/Knowledge Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with young people in a positive manner
    • Experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning, and supervising programs based on the developmental needs of young people
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Energetic, forward-thinking, and creative individual with high ethical standards
    • Ability to work with a team
    • An understanding of the needs and interests of young people
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Ability to interact with young people in a positive way, particularly as it relates to behavior issues
    • Maintain a positive, friendly, and cooperative attitude at the worksite
    • Valid driver’s license
    • CPR, First Aid certification, and Child Abuse Prevention certification. Can be obtained within 30 days of hire.

We support and provide active learning, academic pathways, arts experiences, and creative learning environments. BGCH is currently looking for an Program Manager to join our team at the East Avenue Club OR Grand Boulevard Club.

     

    Key Roles & Responsibilities

    Prepare Youth for Success

    • Ensure programs, services, and activities that prepare youth for success, promote safety of members, and quality in programs at all times. Provide guidance and role modeling to Youth Development Professionals and members.
    • Assist with administrative systems by registering new members and participating in their Club orientation process.
    • Verify quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals, recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests.

     

    Program Development and Implementation

    • Create fun and engaging programs that reflect BGCA programs and member interests.
    • Create weekly program schedule that reflects the program model and continuous quality improvement.
    • Provide program outcomes to appropriate staff at assigned intervals.
    • Participate in program planning meetings with other programming staff.

     

    Health and Safety

    • Ensure a healthy and safe environment, supervising YDPs and members in program areas.
    • Guarantee relative program areas are clean, orderly, and safe.

     

    Relationships

    • Provide individual guidance and establish relationships with members that are conducive to their growth and development.
    • Maintain daily contact with Club staff, including full-time, part-time, and volunteers, to discuss issues challenges and opportunities; provide and receive information as warranted.
    • Continue contact with other youth-serving agencies, schools, and parents of members.
    • Provide supervision and direction to Youth Development Professionals and volunteers.
    • Deliver success stories and photos about kids engaging in activities for marketing purposes.
    • Supply activity attendance and lesson plans to Executive Director for outcome reporting purposes.

     

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Participate in professional development trainings as required BGCH.
    • Keep ongoing inventory of supplies and materials needed to conduct effective programming.
    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Club Director or Executive Director.
    • May participate in special programs and/or events outside of working hours.
    • May be asked to drive Club van.

     

    Education/Experience Requirements:

    • High School Diploma or GED required. College degree preferred.
    • A minimum of 1 year experience in youth development required.

     

    Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Youth Program Assistants

We support and provide active learning, academic pathways, arts experiences, and creative learning environments. BGCH is currently looking for Youth Developmet Professionals to join our team!

     

    Multiple positions are available at the Clubs located at 958 East Avenue Hamilton, OH 45011 and 2020 Grand Boulevard Hamilton, OH 45011, and our satellite location at the Booker T. Washington Community Center, 1140 S Front St, Hamilton, OH 45011.


    After School Hours: Monday-Friday approximately 3:00 pm – 7:30 pm, days vary depending on your availability. Would prefer someone who can work 3-5 days per week.

    Summer Hours: Monday-Friday approximately 10:45 am - 4:15 pm,days vary depending on your availability. Would prefer someone who can work 3-5 days per week 


    Pay Rate: $10-$12.00/hour depending on experience

     

    OVERVIEW

    Youth Program Assistants run daily programs which align with the core areas of BGCH and BGCA (Boys & Girls Clubs of America), while supervising youth and implementing our 5 key elements: Fun, Supportive Relationships, Opportunities & Expectations, Recognition, and Safe, Positive Environment

     

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Supervise youth in all program areas; ensuring their safety, while instilling positive values and ethical behavior through quality programs.
    • Ensure that youth are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities, and that they receive guidance and constructive feedback to develop skills in those program area(s).
    • Manage a healthy, safe and clean environment, ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained. All staff must dust mop, wet mop, wipe down all surfaces and computers in their areas, and keep rooms clean and in working order throughout the day.
    • Establish positive relationships with youth, their parents and/or guardians, and fellow staff members.


    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS PREFERRED

    • Experience working with youth & knowledge of youth development programs
    • Ability to be on your feet, active and engaged with youth
    • Ability to motivate youth, and manage behavior problems in a positive manner
    • Ability to organize and supervise youth in a safe environment
    • Good communication skills
    • CPR and First Aid certification a plus
